Feedback form is now closed.
Summary This workshop will focus on the critical importance of addressing body image & self-esteem issues in youth and creating a healthy, inclusive school environment through evidence-based prevention and social justice approaches. Abstract Body image and self-esteem are key components of child development, yet there are many ways healthy development can go awry, leaving students at-risk for eating disorders, self-harm, and poor self-esteem (even as young as Grade 1!). This workshop focuses on best-practice recommendations to effectively address youth body image and self-esteem in school settings. Practical examples will be used to emphasize how student voices are critical to inform school-based approaches to prevention and intervention. Social justice is an emerging consideration in education and counselling, and will be highlighted. Current approaches to improving body image and self-esteem will be emphasized. Recommendations for administrators, teachers, and school counsellors will be based on best practices.
