Anti-Villainification Strategies for Social Studies Teachers

All historical accounts used in social studies classrooms, by their very nature, will be simplifications of the past. Curriculum developers, textbook authors, and teachers are forced to make difficult choices about how and what to include. This presentation is concerned about the portrayal of villains, and how those portrayals can influence student judgements about those implicated in historical and contemporary atrocities.
