This session will share our story of how our STEAM themed Learning Common evolved from a school library into a vibrant, creative, collaborative place of discovery where our students are encouraged and inspired to explore and engage in multiple levels of learning. Many schools in Alberta are in the beginning stages of incorporating Learning Commons into their school space. This session will explain the process we undertook to create our Learning Commons. We are in our third year and continue to build our resources so we can encourage and engage our students in 21st Century Learning. This will be a hands-on session where teachers will be given the opportunity to interact with some of the resources that we use in the Learning Commons that use the STEAM model (Science, Technology, Engineering Art, and Math). We will also present how our teachers are using the resources from our Learning Commons space in their classrooms to differentiate and challenge their students.
