15 Games to Address Students' Developmental Needs
Social and active play is critical for a child's development, and play has the potential to address many of the difficulties in a child's life. You can facilitate simple games to address students' social and emotional developmental needs (that range from the need for social participation skills to self-regulation assets). Many students still need to be taught how to play. Let's do that together! This session is practical and active: We will work through 15 games and identify the skills each one teaches. These games require no purchases and are easy to replicate using stuff you probably have lying around your classroom. Each game can be modified for children aged K-9 depending on their unique needs. (Plus, these are all useful for indoor recess.)

Fancy Engine, Sketchy Brakes: Teaching with K-3 Development in Mind
This session provides 5 activities and 5 strategies to address the fact that our littlest folks sometimes have powerful engines and the brakes are still out for delivery. No wonder it is complicated to teach them: Their capacity to self-regulate is still growing. We will have fun in this hour. We will move. We will joke. The strategies will be grounded in a neurosequential perspective on brain development and years of teaching experience.

Hurried & Worried: Understanding Children's Anxiety
Do you have students or children in your life who seem easily agitated, overwhelmed or irritated? Do you often see them engage in avoidant, aggressive or scattered behaviors that negatively affects their learning and social development? If so, it’s possible you have a child with anxiety. This session looks into what anxiety looks like, sounds like and feels like for children in the classroom, on the playground and as they develop. Participants will leave with a greater understanding of this very common mental health challenge, and some fun & educational strategies for helping students (and us as their teachers) be successful when they are hurried and/ or worried.
