Democracy Bootcamp: NCTCA 2019 presented by CIVIX
****This is an ATA sponsored event and has an independent registration at the link below****

Space is limited. Please click here to register by January 31.

One of the most urgent issues facing democracies today is the spread of misinformation and disinformation. The ability to discern true from false, and reliable from unreliable, is an essential skill of citizenship in the digital age. Learn the tips and tricks for fact-checking and verifying sources that you can bring back to your classroom and empower your students to be informed citizens.

In preparation for the spring provincial election, listen to experts and journalists share their insights relating to the parties and campaign strategies, and participate in small group discussions with other teachers to speak about useful tools and best practices for Student Vote.

Teachers will leave the day ready to challenge their students into thinking about politics, news consumption and participating in Student Vote Alberta 2019.

If you have any questions, please email the CIVIX team at bootcamp@civix.ca.

Brainy, Brawny and Bold: Developing science, CTS and health curricular ties through rock climbing
This session will combine the development of practical climbing skills (movement and technique) and the exploration of curricular connections to the sport of climbing. Curious about climbing? Come and experience first hand one of the world’s fastest-growing sports. Don’t let your lack of experience or perceived fitness level deter you as this session is as much about developing brains and boldness as it is about brawn. Climbing is an individual sport so it is accessible to athletes of all ability levels. Learn the fundamental movements and techniques that are unique to getting around in the vertical world. Come prepared to be active and unless you have your own climbing shoes please wear socks! All participants must fill out a waiver which can be found here. http://climbing.rockjunglefitness.com/waiver/ Please note that the session will take place off-site at Rock Jungle Fitness in the west end of Edmonton, not the downtown bouldering gym. The space has been donated for this event, however, a pre-registration fee of $13.00 will be required to confirm your registration and for the rental of equipment. Those with their own shoes and harness will be reimbursed upon arrival at the session.
