Lois Maplethorpe

I currently teach in the Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) program at Red Deer College. I come from an Elementary Education background, where I taught in a variety of classrooms from Kindergarten to Grade 5. In my last few years of school teaching, I dappled in Learning Support and Teacher Librarianship. Before my classroom teaching years, I spent 12 years in the Family Literacy field, teaching lap-sit rhyming classes, emergent literacy awareness seminars, preschool and adult ESL.
I have grown up and worked in mostly rural environments, so Red Deer is a new experience for me. I received my BEd degree through Maskwacis College in Maskwacis, AB (in partnership with the UofA). I am currently a Doctoral student at the University of Toronto in Developmental Psychology and Education.
I am passionate about emergent literacy and children’s books and I love to spend time outdoors, near water and mountains, whenever possible!
