Lynnette Newton

Lynnette Newton is Alberta born, Alberta bound. True to character, she loves nature, children, the study of both and has had over 25 years in the classroom. Navigating elementary school was a steep challenge with success in literacy coming later in life. Lynnette completed her Rehabilitation Diploma in 1996 and continued professional development focusing on students with disabilities and high risk behaviours. In 2009 Lynnette completed her B.Ed. and immediately began her teaching career in a remote Northern community. Based on the kindness and gifts she received from the Indigenous People of this community, she developed a love and deep commitment to further her journey of understanding. Lynnette taught Music over a span of 4 years with Miyo Wahkohtowin School Board, partaking in sweet grass and berry picking, sweats, and healing circles. Her journey later took her to Elk Island Public Schools where she has worked on the creation and implementation of meaningful enriching Indigenous experiences for all staff and students. She continues to explore and ask questions as she travels along her journey.
