Maggie MacDonnell

Maggie MacDonnell is the winner of the Global Teacher Prize, a $1 Million US purse considered to be the Nobel Peace Prize of Education. Her teaching experience is global including working with; Congolese and Burundian refugees, young Tanzanians living with HIV, to Inuit youth in the Canadian Arctic. Maggie brings a community development approach to her classroom practice, where she works to engage her students in authentic project based learning that centers them as agents of change in their communities. With a background studies in human kinetics, Maggie is passionate about using physical activity to build resilience. As a feminist, she is concerned about how schools are removing gendered barriers so as to ensure girl students are welcome, safe and successful at school.
